Striped Bass on the Fly Spring 2022

Hi Folks,

It's spring time and the 2022 season is off to a great start.

We've had some pretty good days fly fishing the surf and the back bays of long island, all wading action that you can easily do yourself.

We found striped bass right at the wash in the south shore beaches, in fact at one point we out fished the surfcasters, but conditions need to be right in order to fly fish, this usually means a flat ocean and wind at your back, so on Long Island that means wind from the north.

Also keep in mind that you don't need to cast far, most of the strikes happened, if not at our feet maybe a maximum of 30 ft. away.

The back bays have also been very productive and while we mostly caught only small bass, we had a couple nice surprises with larger fish, like this one that fell for an all olive clouser.

First Video of 2022

Instead of writing another long article, watch the following video where I narrate where, what and how we are fishing.

It might be more helpful than having you read about it.

Best of luck for the 2022 season and as usual, send me a note with any questions of comments.

Tight lines!
